Wireless Ethernet Factory - Is it practical?

Yes it is, due to PlantMESH technology - don't try this with anything else!   PlantMESH actually has better redundancy than a normal wired ethernet plant network, as PlantMESH has mutliple paths it can take across the network to get where it needs.  A wired network has just one, and if something happens to the cable or connector, or switch port... your process is down.  Here are a few more reasons why PlantMESH works so well in factory environments:

PlantMESH is Secure, Redundant and Fault Tolerant. 256 bit encrypted SSH tunnels between each PlantMESH unit, and your choice of 128 or 256 bit wireless encryption to the clients or a hard wired connection via a MeshNODE. The Layer 3 routing algorithm identifies when a node stops working and re-routes traffic to the next best path automatically, providing fail safe operation.

ZERO Configure Install. Plug in the MeshCore, power up some MeshNodes and MeshStations, then turn on your laptop. is not only working but it's also optimized! (Don't worry, if you really want to, once everything is hooked up, you can tune it to your hearts content.)

PlantMESH is Fast and Expandable.  Unlike other Mesh systems, PlantMESH can handle virtually as many nodes as you want to install, because is always checking the best path for traffic, and ONLY sends actual traffic over that path. Conventional Mesh systems send all traffic to all nodes, limiting most systems to between four and six nodes before speed drops off drastically.
